Wall Street Journal – Unitus Impact is backing Vietnamese startups that help people access financial services

San Francisco-based venture-capital firm Unitus Impact is betting on financial startups not in nearby Silicon Valley, but in a far away location: Vietnam.

While many conventional VC investors focus purely on healthy financial returns, Unitus Impact wants to generate profits while simultaneously helping serve low-income people in emerging economies. Backing companies using new financial models can be a challenging prospect given the often complex government regulations and low but rising rates of Internet penetration.
